During the warmer months, motorcycles are more prevalent on the roadways.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse reminds motorists to be on the lookout for motorcyclists, especially at intersections.

“Take that extra second at the intersection and check. A motorcycle is a lot harder to see sitting at a stop sign than a blue vehicle, or a red car, or whatever, and they understand that as well as the operator on that motorcycle. They are taking extra precautions, hopefully, to travel safely.”

Clouse also reminds motorists that motorcycles can hide in their blind spots, even with the advanced warning blind spot systems that newer vehicles have, he suggests always looking over your shoulder to ensure that those lower profile vehicles are not in a blind spot before changing lanes or making a turn.
