Greene County ended the high school softball regular season on Friday night in Ogden with a non-conference 10-4 victory in eight innings vs. the Bulldogs. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team enters the Class 3A postseason on July 6 at Saydel High School in Des Moines with a 6-15 record, while the Bulldogs, a 2A program, are 6-29.

It looked as though Greene County would win in regulation as they took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but the Bulldogs tied the game and sent it into extra innings. It was all Rams in the eighth with six runs in the top of the frame, then holding Ogden scoreless in the bottom of the eighth.

The Rams had 14 hits (11 singles, three doubles) and five players had multiple hit games. Sophomores led the way at the plate for Coach Tom Kennedy’s team. Emma Stream had a double and two singles and one run batted in. Slap-hitter Alexa Peters collected three singles, and she drove in two runs. Slapper Olivia Shannon singled twice while Emma Hoyle had two singles and three RBI. Those four accounted for 10 of the 14 hits. They batted in the first through four spots in the order and all are sophomores. Another sophomore, Paige Teeples, doubled, singled, and had two RBI, while junior Carmyn Paup singled and had an RBI, while senior Karissa Stephenson doubled. The Rams also had the running game going with six stolen bases, including two each from Peters and Shannon.

Hoyle pitched all eight innings for the victory. She allowed four earned runs on seven hits and four walks. She struck out 11 batters and the defense played without a charged error.

The postseason is all that’s left for the Rams and they travel to Saydel High School in Des Moines on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. Class 3A Regional first round game vs. host Saydel, the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champion. The Eagles have 3-0 and 6-2 victories over the Rams so far this season. Tuesday’s game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
