Top Rail Saddle Club hosts its annual Western Days Rodeo in Lake City June 26 and 27. Sometimes we think of only human beings as athletes, but Nancy Janssen, Treasurer of the Top Rail Saddle Club, told Raccoon Valley Radio, the cowboys, cowgirls, horses, and bulls, are all athletes. “They are all athletes! You don’t have to be able to run really fast or block really tough to be an athlete, and these people are athletes, and the animals as well.”
The rodeo will have a lot going on, Janssen added. “People will see so much going on at the same time they can’t take it all in. We’ll have of course, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding. Those are my favorites, but there are a lot of roping events.” She encourages those attending to pay attention to the skill it takes to be a rodeo athlete, whether it’s the two-legged or four-legged kind.
