A heat lamp is blamed for yesterday’s hoop building fire south of Grand Junction.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s office, just before noon on Wednesday, a hoop building fire was reported at the home of Jeffrey and Juanita Gilley at 2209 230th Street.
Grand Junction Fire and Rescue Department was the lead department and Fire Chief Mark Renslow says a heat lamp overheated and caught several bales of straw on fire which ignited the structure. Some of the items that were lost in the fire were a few sheep and cows, farm tools and straw and hay. Renslow adds that some farm machinery was salvageable.
The Jefferson, Paton and Ogden fire departments and the Boone County Emergency Management Services also responded. The fire was completely put out within three hours.
Renslow comments that he’s very appreciative of all the other departments lending their help especially when Churdan assisted during a house fire earlier this week also in Grand Junction. He says it’s nice when other departments call and ask if he needs extra manpower and he adds that he does the same to help others as well.
