The Iowa Department of Public Safety is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state that is focused on reducing traffic fatalities.

Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Shelby McCreedy tells Raccoon Valley Radio an initiative is underway in conjunction with the Iowa Fatality Reduction Task Force with the ultimate goal of reducing traffic fatalities in the state to under 300, which hasn’t happened since 1925.

McCreedy talks about the current program that law enforcement is conducting across the state.

“We are going to be having additional personnel out. We’re going to be working in coordination with city and county law enforcement agencies, as well as the Iowa Department of Transportation, with the focus of looking for impaired drivers traveling at excessive speeds, and any other dangerous behavior that we have identified as being causes for serious injuries and fatal crashes in our state.”

The current initiative ends today.
