Greene County defeated Nevada in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball Wednesday night in Jefferson at the City diamond on E. Lincolnway. The Rams won 8-2, scoring four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to break open a scoreless game. The Cubs scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Winning pitcher Emma Hoyle hit a grand slam homer to start the scoring. It was her second career home run, and her second career grand slam. Hoyle also doubled and drove in six runs. Carmyn Paup doubled, with two singles each from Karissa Stephenson and Alexa Peters. Greene County had 11 hits and was charged with just one error.
The Cubs had two runs on five hits and two errors. Hoyle fanned nine Cubs and walked three. Greene County improved to 2-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
