DCG boys soccer played in an instant classic on Thursday afternoon in boys 2A semifinal action, as they fell just short in overtime to the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays by the score of 4-3. The game, all knotted up at three after regulation, was decided after a DCG foul was committed in the penalty box, which gave the Bluejays a penalty kick, which junior Zach Kline was able to bury into the back of the net to advance the Bluejays to the championship game.
For DCG, they fought hard throughout the game, as the Mustangs were able to get a goal in the first half thanks to a penalty kick, which Kendall Bickford was able to put in, though the Mustangs trailed by two. The Mustangs trailed 3-1 early in the second half when they were able to get a goal with 26 minutes left with Wisley Kabamba drilling one through to make it a one goal game. Then with 15 minutes left, Bickford was able to score his second goal of the night to tie the game at 3, setting up the thrilling finish.
For DCG, they conclude a wonderful season at 17-4, with season accomplishments including a conference championship and substate championship as well. The Mustangs will lose three seniors from their team, but are projected to return one of the top teams in 2A next year.
