Boone entered Wednesday night on a roll. The ranked Toreadors were one of the pre-season favorites to win the Raccoon River Conference returning seven starters off last year’s team including three who will continue their college careers at DMACC. The experience paid off late as Boone held off Perry by a final score of 4-2. Zoey Hightshoe delivered the game winning walk off 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep Boone perfect on the young season.
The game was tied at two entering the bottom of the seventh inning. The Toreadors started the frame with a double from Natalie Danner. After an Emily Ades ground out moved Danner to third, the senior catcher jumped on the very first pitch from Jayna Kenney that sent the Boone fans into celebration.
Kenney pitched well and the Perry defense was outstanding on the night. The Jayettes didn’t commit a single error and had a number of highlight plays from Macy Kilmer at third base. Peyton Tunick was solid behind the plate and threw out Emma Dighton trying to steal second late in the game.
Perry jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a RBI from Aiden Hood and a second run scoring following a Boone error. Kenney and Lydia Olejniczak scored the Perry runs.
Kenney pitched 6 1/3, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out two.
Perry falls to 0-2 and will look for their first conference win since June of 2018 tonight when they host ADM at the PAC. Boone defeated ADM 5-0 to start the season.
