A Stuart man was recently sentenced for a September incident.

According to court documents, 43-year-old Shane Davis pled guilty to a Class D Felony for eluding. He had a five-year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years. His probation sentence is to run concurrently with a probation violation from a previous 2017 conviction for an aggravated misdemeanor for his second offense for possession of methamphetamines. Davis is to serve two years of probation for the probation violation.

The eluding conviction stemmed from an incident on September 15, 2020. Davis led a Stuart Police Officer on a high speed chase, after he refused to stop for having a broken tail light. The chase started on East Front Street around 12:30am and ended at the intersection of Clark and Jefferson streets in Redfield. Drug items were found on Davis after he was apprehended.

Davis was also ordered to pay an $850 fine, along with a 15-percent surcharge. As per the plea agreement, all other charges in the incident, including an aggravated misdemeanor for driving while barred, and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.
