Following President Joe Biden’s speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, lawmakers are taking time to reflect and comment on the president’s priorities.

Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative Randy Feenstra tells Raccoon Valley Radio he generally agreed with some of the topics that Biden mentioned, including repairing roads and bridges with infrastructure improvements, along with supporting affordable child care. He points out his main concern with Biden’s speech was when he called for unity and everyone working together.

“I just hope that the (Biden) administration, at this point moving forward, will work across the aisle. We have not seen that yet. We passed a $1.9 trillion the first month that we were there with zero Republican, with zero input from anybody. So I’m hoping that as we move forward we can talk about some of these things.”

Feenstra says he is very willing to work together with other congressional members and the White House to resolve issues.

“I just want the openness of saying, ‘Hey, let’s hear the other side, our side – I’m in the minority – let’s look at those things that we can work collaboratively on.”

Biden’s speech came on the eve of his first 100 days in office as President.
