After a brief stint of being open last year due to the pandemic, one Greene County organization is ready to reopen its doors and programs this year.

Greene County Historical Society Executive Director Roger Aegerter is excited to open the historical museum in Jefferson for their season on May 1st. He recalls the situation they had to deal with last year.

“Last year we did open up on May 1st for only about two weeks. But at that time things were just developing and getting worse all the time. So the (Greene County) public health said, ‘You probably need to close down.’ So after about two weeks we did close down. So we did not open up the rest of the year. It’s been hard, but I think it was the right thing to do.”

Aegerter notes that while the museum is getting ready to open, they will also bring back some of the free monthly programs the historical society had to cancel last year as well.

“Almost all of those programs we had last year have just been transferred into this coming year. If things continue as they are, we’re still planning on having the same lineup of programs we had last year but having them this year.”

The museum will be open from May 1st to October 1st on Saturdays from 9am to noon and Wednesdays from 1-4pm.
