The Greene County School Board met Wednesday in regular session.

The Board held a discussion on the district mask mitigation efforts against COVID-19. Following the lengthy discussion, the Board ultimately voted 3-2 to go back to the green level on its mask matrix, which masks are encouraged in all buildings; yellow level on buses, which means masks are required if social distancing can’t happen; and students are encouraged to wear masks if they want to. The three yes votes were Board Vice-President Catherine Wilson, John McConnell and Steve Fisher. Board President Dr. Steve Karber and Mike Dennhardt voted no.

The Board approved the second required readings for revised board policies, including classified staff for holidays, vacations, and personal leave; conducting fundraisers and using appropriate use of public funds for scholarships, and the community using school facilities. Additionally, the Board approved a $124,363 change order for the middle school renovation project, but using funds from the federal government which are COVID-19 related. The Board also approved a list of summer projects, including 12 items and nine additional items to be used with the COVID-19 relief funds. They also approved one fundraiser request for a high school government class. 

The Board then heard an update with a new high school class called Ram Fanatic. It is a class dedicated to online social media presence and a new internship program was also mentioned with students doing paid internships with six local businesses to start in May.
