Greene County high school’s boys’ track & field squad will be well represented on April 22 on day one of the 111th Drake Relays at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Coach Chad Morton’s team qualified four events for the prestigious track & field meet, which will have a different look this year due to COVID-19 concerns. There was no Drake Relays in 2020, and this year all high school events will be on Thursday with limited fans allowed.
Senior Brooklynn Olson is the lone Greene County girl that qualified. She made it in the shot put. Junior Nathan Black in the high jump, junior Jackson Morton in the 110 meter high hurdles, junior Bryce Stalder in the long jump, and the shuttle hurdle relay of Black, Morton, Stalder, and senior Jaxon Warnke, are the Greene County qualifiers. It’s been some time for the boys’ program based in Jefferson to have as many as four events qualify. The Drake Relays sets its own schedule and determines what events it will host and how many qualifiers are in each event. There are just 16 shuttle hurdle relays that qualify with 24 qualifiers in both the high jump and long jump, while 32 qualify in the high hurdles.
