You may have noticed some sidewalk paint along Lincoln Way in Jefferson in front of the Greene County Historical Museum and the Welcome Center.

Historical Society Executive Director Roger Aegerter says it’s a depiction of the actual Lincoln Highway from the east to the west coasts, including portions of Greene County such as Jefferson. Aegerter has driven from Jefferson to the east coast and most recently from Jefferson to the west coast following along the highway. He was inspired by someone to do something with the Lincoln Highway and after looking at other replicas, he decided to make his own. Aegerter says his representation is as accurate for the route as he could possibly make it.

Aegerter notes the entertainment and educational aspects that the art display brings.

“What’s kind of been fun is to watch kids come along with their bikes. They’ll ride the Lincoln Highway, they ride up and down the sidewalk and you can tell that obviously that they’re riding right on top of the road. It’s been fun. People don’t know how straight or how curvy it is, and it’s basically pretty to scale and shows you what it’s like.”

Aegerter points out the best vantage point is seeing it from the top of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower.
