Some Stuart residents may have already started open burning certain items on their property this spring season.

Stuart Fire Chief Josh Renslow tells Raccoon Valley Radio only yard waste is allowed for open burning within city limits. He advises there is no size restriction for yard waste items like tree branches that people can burn, but residents can use their own judgement.

“The individual that thinks it’s too large to burn or wants to dispose of yard waste a different way, we do have a city dump that they are allowed to take stuff to on Saturdays.”

Renslow notes there’s no time restrictions as to when residents are allowed to burn, except for when the City is under a burn ban. As for some safety tips, Renslow suggests burning in a controlled environment and not around structures or objects that can easily catch fire and have a water source nearby to make sure the fire is completely out.
