The Guthrie County Attorney’s Office reports that crime didn’t stop last year because of the pandemic as they continue to keep busy.

Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird says her focus continues to be to reduce or eliminate the drug-related cases that involve methamphetamine. She points out that meth and other illegal drugs can also lead to these criminals breaking into other people’s homes, vehicles or garages looking for items to sell.

“When someone steals from someone that’s an invasion of their personal property and their space, but also it’s very hurtful because sometimes it’s hard for law enforcement to find and track down these things. When folks are selling what they’ve burglarized, it’s often for pennies on the dollar. No one would want to have their tools or other things stolen and sold for pennies on the dollar for drug money.”

Bird appreciates the coordinated effort her office has had with local law enforcement to seriously punish those types of drug crimes and adds that she hasn’t let up on that focus just because of a pandemic.
