Tuesday saw the Greene County High School girls and boys track & field teams compete at the Kip Janvrin Panorama Coed Relays in Panora, Both Greene County teams placed fourth. There were 10 teams of girls and eight teams of boys.
Of the three outdoor meets the Rams have been in, yesterday’s had the least amount of wind. and the southerly breezes across the east-west track were not headwinds into the homestretch. The athletes took advantage with some very good performances.
The team titles went to the Harlan Community girls and ACGC boys. The Cyclones had 130 points with the girls from Panorama at 88, Mount Ayr 87, Greene County 60, Madrid 52, Woodbine 48, ACGC 45, Gladden-Ralston 42, Woodward-Granger 22, and Ogden 13 points. The Chargers scored 150 boys’ points with 114 from Woodbine, 97 by Mount Ayr, 86 from the Rams, 53 by Woodward-Granger, 48 for Gladden-Ralston, 36 from Ogden, and four points for Panorama.
Placing first for Greene County were three girls’ events and six more from the boys. Two of the girls’ wins came in field events from seniors Brooklynn Olson and Brianna Osterson. Olson won the shot put with a career best-tying effort of 35′ 8″ and Osterson long jumped 15′ 8-1/2″.The Rams also won the 4 x 200 meter relay in a season time of 1:51.68 with sophomore Olivia Shannon, sophomore Natalie Heupel, senior Makala Kafer, and Osterson.
Junior Bryce Stalder went a career best 22′ 1/4″ in the long jump. Junior Jackson Morton won the 110 meter high hurdles in his career best time of 15.75 seconds. The shuttle hurdle relay of Richard Daugherty, Bryce Stalder, Jaxon Warnke and Jackson Morton won in 1:04.88. The Rams also had a season best time in the 4 x 100 meter relay in :45.60 with Jose Velazco, Stalder, Daugherty, and Warnke. The 4 x 400 relay was a winner with Morton, Stalder, sophomore Patrick Daugherty, and Warnke in a season best 3:36.74, and 1:34.97 won the 4 x 200 relay with Luis Velazco, Richard Daugherty, Nathan Wailes, and Morton.
Greene County athletes turned in quite a few other personal best and season best performances.
