The high school boys’ soccer season officially begins this Saturday for the Greene County Rams. Coach Carl Behne’s team goes to Perry to face the Blue Jays and Des Moines North, both larger schools with quality boys’ soccer programs.
The Rams scrimmaged Storm Lake and Panorama in Panora last Saturday, so they’ve played back-to-back matches already, but conditioning is still a concern shared by head coach Carl Behne. “It’s certainly going to be a little bit of a challenge going back-to-back. I’m not sure the boys’ fitness is quite where I’d like it to be for that, but the great thing about having a lot of multi-sport guys, and a lot of guys that are excited and committed to the season, is that they’re in pretty good shape. I feel like we’ll be able to compete in both matches back-to-back, but it’s a lot of time on the field against two really solid programs, and programs that have a long history of talent and a lot of talent that goes out every year, so you know they’re going to be deep, and those are things we’ll have to adjust for.”
The Rams and Blue Jays are scheduled to face off at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by Greene County and DM North, with Perry and the Polar Bears concluding the day.
