We are in the time of year where lots of controlled burns are happening in Guthrie County.

Sheriff Marty Arganbright advises rural residents that if they are wanting to do a controlled burn to contact the sheriff’s office to notify them first. He says that if someone calls to report seeing a fire, they know about it and don’t have to unnecessarily page out fire departments. Arganbright points out that it also allows them to page out fire departments if the situation becomes out of control.

“I know they’re volunteer, but they do a great job. They do go to fires that maybe started (as) controlled and then went out of control, and it can happen so soon. But the fire departments are quick to fight fires and they know what they’re doing, so don’t hesitate to call.”

The non-emergency number for the sheriff’s office is 641-747-2214.
