The Perry School Board recently approved to move forward with a renovation project for the Jim Kaufman Track.
Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks says the renovations, which will cost more than $500,000, plans to make the track safer as Wicks says Perry won’t be hosting any track meets until the project is done. He explains its current condition. .
“There are some major cracks, there’s some major bumps and humps and unevenness across the whole track. So, we will not be hosting any track meets so we want to create a much more safe and I think very sharp looking track. That’s going to be the big benefit for the Perry Schools, Perry community. So, we are excited about that.”
Clark says the scope of the project includes taking the track out, going into the ground and creating a firm base then applying a new surface.
Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio the renovation project will begin in June with the hopes to be done by the time school starts back up in August.
