With the warmer weather getting people to head outdoors more often and spring right around the corner, there are important reminders for fire safety.
Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds reminds residents that it’s a good time for people to change the batteries in their smoke detectors and other alarms, along with checking vents in your home.
Additionally, Hinds reminds people to be careful when they are using power tools or other equipment while they are out and about doing spring cleaning.
“We want to try and avoid any kind of mishaps and things that would lead to a trip to the emergency room. So, we need to be cautious of that.”
Finally, Hinds advises another important thing to do is to clear out your chimney after using your furnace all winter. He says it’s a good habit to get into cleaning out your chimney each year in the spring and fall.
