With spring break upon us, some people may want to travel and enjoy a moment of normalcy while the global pandemic continues.
Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf recommends not traveling outside the state for spring break, but realizes that may not be realistic for some people. She suggests checking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website and try to avoid places that are considered “hotbeds” for potential spread of COVID-19. Wolf notes if you are traveling to get a viral test 1-3 days before you leave and have a copy of the results as evidence in case you need it. She also suggests washing hands, wearing a mask in public, avoiding crowds and stay within your travel group.
After you return home, Wolf recommends getting a viral test 3-5 days after you come back and self quarantine for seven days. She explains the importance of following these guidelines.
“The reason for that is you may have been exposed and you wait 3-5 days to see if maybe you turn positive, but in the meantime even if you’re not having symptoms, you could still be contagious. We want you home if you start having symptoms not out and about.”
Wolf adds if your test result is negative you should continue to self isolate and if it is positive, make sure to isolate yourself everyone, including those in your household.
