A project in Greene County recently received two grants totaling close to $475,000.

The Greene County Early Learning Center in Jefferson has received two grants through the Iowa Department of Human Services for $394,941 and a Child Care Challenge grant for $75,000. The Child Care Challenge grant is through Future Ready Iowa and Iowa Workforce Development, which provides funding that supports regional and community projects for local child care facilities and increases the availability of quality, affordable child care.  

The project includes building a new facility adjacent to the current facility on Madison Street. The new building would include 145 child care slots and the total cost of the project is $1.9 million. Early Learning Center Board President Jacque Andrew is excited to roll out their capital fundraising campaign soon.
