Several Guthrie County high school students will be competing at the Iowa High School Speech Association State Individual contest.
A total of 32 entries qualified at the district contest between Panorama, West Central Valley and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center high schools. Panorama will have ten students performing in 15 categories, including Avery Bahrenfuss, Ruby Hummel, Abbi Holloway, Lauren Soll and Riley Gibson each performing in two categories. West Central Valley will also have nine students that will compete in 11 categories, including Emma Johnson and Bodhi Mains each performing in two categories. Panorama will host both schools Saturday for their state contest.
Finally, AC/GC will have eight students competing in eight categories. They plan to submit virtual recordings to be considered by judges. According to the IHSSA website, the state contest can be from March 10th-19th. Each performance qualified for state by earning a Division I-rating at the district level.
Due to the pandemic, there will not be an all-state festival, however nominations for all-state will still be recognized.
