First round state tournament action for class 3A basketball will be on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network today, as Dallas Center – Grimes will take on Davenport Assumption in first round action today from Wells Fargo arena in Des Moines. The Mustangs come into the matchup 20-3 on the season while Davenport Assumption will come in with a 18-6 record in the 4 vs. 5 matchup.

There will be many different things both teams will be focused on, as they’ve had very similar runs to state, both winning blowout games in round 1, tough semifinal games, and then getting tremendous performances in the substate final to cruise to victory. Both of these teams met back in 2013 in the state quarterfinals, with Davenport Assumption winning the game.

The Mustangs will be looking for a strong defensive performance, slowing down top players for the Knights, and hope to find key shooters to space the floor and get good looks.
