Nine West Central Valley students participated in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s District Individual Speech competition Monday, and every one of them earned a Division I-rating and a bid to the State Contest.

The qualifying events were: Radio News – Bodhi Mains; Prose – Gavin Dupay, Abbi Balsemier and Kinsey Alt; Poetry – Emma R. Johnson and Halley Joel; Acting – Sophia Mahedy; Spontaneous Speaking – Johnson; Literary Program – Jessica Armenta and Storytelling – Mains and Kaylin Wachter.

The state competition will be March 13 at Panorama High School.
