A West Des Moines man was recently sentenced after a high-speed chase in May.

According to court documents, 30-year-old Joseph Brue pled guilty to eluding, a Class D Felony, and sentenced to two years of probation. He also pled guilty to operating while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two days in the Guthrie County Jail and placed on one year of probation. He was fined just over $2,100. 

The charges stem from a May 21, 2020 high-speed chase that went over 100-miles per hour through Bayard and Coon Rapids before stop sticks were deployed by law enforcement. A search of Brue’s vehicle revealed two open bottles of wine and THC gummy candies. Authorities conducted field sobriety tests, and Brue consented to a urine test.

In exchange for the guilty plea, serious misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and carrying a knife over five-inches were dropped.
