The need for sports officials across the state is high, and West Central Valley is hoping to offer the opportunity for students to become certified officials this summer.

Athletics Director David Doely says it’s a great way to learn the game and get paid while doing it.

“We have a high need for officials. Any student, baseball or softball coming up this summer, we’d like to have students get a discount to become a certified official. It’s great for them to come in and help out at the middle school level, especially if you have a high school kid, get paid while doing it, learn the game, it’s a great experience for them.”

High school students are eligible to obtain licenses and officiate contests below the varsity level as of the 2019-20 school year through the Iowa High School Athletic Association or Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
