Seven Raccoon Valley Radio listening area grapplers advanced to the top-8 and will compete in tonight”s final round of the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.
Greene County High School sophomore McKinley Robbins will face off with top-seed Blaine Frazier for the Class 2A 106-pound state championship. This will be Robbins second time wrestling in the state final after finishing in second place last year.
Panorama High School senior Wyatt Appleseth will seek the Panthers’ first-ever state title in the Class 2A 160-pound bracket versus two-time state champion Hayden Taylor of Solon.
Winterset’s Tyler Brown advanced to the title round with a 17-14 decision victory in the semifinal. He’ll take on Jack Gaukel of Sergeant Bluff-Luton for the Class 2A 152-pound championship.
Also wrestling for the Huskies at 182 pounds is Riley Hoven after falling in the semifinals. He will wrestle West Delaware’s Cael Meyer, with a chance to advance to the Class 2A 182-pound third-place match.
Dallas Center-Grimes’ Jacob Fistler will face Nick Walters of Sioux City North to fight his back back toward a potential top finish of third in the Class 3A 126-pound bracket.
Waukee’s Carson Kelly and Colin Driscoll will battle for the chance at a third-place finish in the 132- and 152-pound Class 3A brackets respectively.
