A Council Bluffs man has been officially charged with vehicular homicide from an alleged traffic fatality on February 2nd in rural Dallas County.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office 53-year-old Stephen Joseph Wink of Council Bluffs now faces homicide by vehicle – operating while under the influence, a Class B Felony charge, and operating while under the influence – 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. According to lab results Wink’s blood alcohol concentration level was above Iowa’s legal limit of 0.08.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that at 9:39pm on February 2nd, Wink allegedly crossed the centerline when traveling south on County Road P-58 and his vehicle hit head-on with a northbound vehicle driven by 40-year-old Danyel Denise Hardisty of Minburn. Hardisty was pronounced dead at the scene, while a seven-year-old child in Hardisty’s vehicle and Wink suffered injuries. The other charges Wink faces include misdemeanors for driving while barred, driving while revoked, driving under suspension and an open container violation.
Wink remains in the Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
