Access to childcare has been greatly impacted since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and Iowa legislators are currently looking at addressing this issue.
Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says they are looking at improving access to childcare through various bills as well as improving the infrastructure of childcare in Iowa.
“We have been doing a number of things to not only help access childcare but also help employers offer their employees childcare. We also passed a bill that would allow tax incentives, or assistance, for employers to build onsite childcare facilities at their workplace. So, even before the pandemic Iowa has seen a childcare shortage and we are working to address that.”
Nordman says some of the bills that were passed include House File 230, which increases the income for the childcare tax credit; House File 370, which helps employers provide childcare to their employees by providing a tax credit; and House File 260, which relates to those providing in-home childcare.
