Burnside was the site of last night’s Class 2A boys’ basketball District 14 opening round game as Southeast Valley hosted Greene County. The high school gym is Gowrie is being remodeled and isn’t playable at this time. The Jaguars and Rams met for the second time since Feb. 8 and the final margin was 22 points at 89-67. The first meeting went to SEV on Feb. 8 by a 69-48 final in Jefferson.
Leading the Rams in scoring was sophomore Richard Daugherty with 25 points. Sophomore Jesse Miller had 12 points and junior Bryce Stalder added 11. The Rams led 16-12 after one quarter, then trailed 41-25 at intermission. Greene County could get no closer than 12 points in the second half. Zach Goff is the lone senior on the team.
The Jaguars, now 13-9, had 25 points from junior guard Kolson Kruse, who was instrumental in SEV going 11 of 19 on three-point shots. SEV’s 6′ 4″ junior post Aaron Graves is a U. of Iowa football recruit also wrestles for the Jaguars and he qualified for Thursday night’s Class 2A State Tournament first round in Des Moines. In fact, Graves and Greene County’s Sawyer Schiltz have a round one match up in the first round Thursday night. Graves pinned Schiltz in 55 seconds in a dual meet last month.
