With COVID-19 vaccinations dominating the forefront right now other important vaccinations can be overlooked, especially for the elderly.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says there are multiple vaccinations which are still important for the elderly population to receive. These include vaccines like shingles and pneumonia. Cochran notes getting vaccinated can be expensive.

“Shingles is a bad disease for older adults and if you haven’t gotten your shingles shot and paying for it is what is keeping you from getting it I would encourage you to call the Dallas County Health Department and we may be able to get you some financial assistance in paying for your co-pay because shingles is a very important one.”

Cochran notes also getting a pneumonia shot could be beneficial to those who may frequently get pneumonia or congestion brought on by the common cold. Cochran encourages people to speak with their doctors about these vaccinations.
