With Governor Kim Reynolds recently signing into law the requirement for public schools to offer 100-percent in-person learning, more funding may be on the way for some school districts.

Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says more funding is needed for schools who are meeting in-person, 100-percent of the time. Nordman says there is an increased cost for schools to meet during a pandemic which is demonstrated in the proposed bill.

“We understand that there is more cost associated with fully being in-person 100-percent of the time in a classroom in the middle of a pandemic. We understand that so we know that we need to increase a little bit of funding for that.”

Nordman says there would be an additional $30 million in funding for those schools who have been 100-percent in-person to accommodate for the increased cost of meeting during a pandemic under proposed House File 439.
