The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
Following a public hearing, the Council approved a resolution for an interim loan agreement with the Iowa Finance Authority for up to $700,000 for a state revolving fund for administrative and engineering planning and design for the wastewater treatment plant project to be rolled into the overall construction of the new facility. Additionally, the Council approved a resolution for the proposed property tax levy rate for the 2022 fiscal year, following a public hearing. The City’s tax asking will be less than 0.5-percent from the previous fiscal year’s increase for a total of $1,821,621.
The Council also approved a resolution accepting a gift from Barbara Hanen of $40,000-50,000 to be used to acquire and demolish dilapidated properties. The Council approved the updated Comprehensive Plan, closing the alley next to Doc’s Stadium and leasing it to the restaurant for three years and set February 23rd’s meeting as the public hearing for a bond issuance not to exceed $400,000 toward the Greene County Animal Shelter project.
The meeting ended in a budget workshop. The City is proposing a $14.91 per $1,000 valuation for its tax levy rate for the 2022 fiscal year on an over $8.1 million budget. The rate is a decrease of $0.19 compared to the current fiscal year.
