Nevada visited the new Greene County High School gym in Jefferson on Friday night. The Cubs were seeking to sweep a girl/boy basketball doubleheader with Greene County for the second time in as many meetings this season and the Cubs did just that. The action was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The girls’ final was 50-32 and the Cubs won the boys’ game 70-48.

Greene County led 14-10 after one quarter of the girls’ game before the Cubs took a 20-17 half time lead. A 13-0 Nevada run to end the third quarter put the visiting team ahead at 36-25 and the lead grew to as many as 22 points late in the contest. The Cubs improved to 10-9 overall and 9-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Coach Todd Gordon’s Rams fell to 5-11 and 2-7. Sadie Wilson had 12 points on four three-point goals for the Rams and Brianna Babben also scored a dozen. Nevada was led by Shelby Hazlitt with 16 points and Sidney Mosinski with 10. Greene County turned the ball over 31 times to 16 for Nevada.

The boys’ game saw the Rams 15-11 after one quarter and 18-11 early in the second before Nevada put 18 unanswered on the board and they led the rest of the way. It was 34-24 at the half and 54-41 at the end of the third quarter. The final margin was the largest lead of the game. Junior Collin Memmer scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the first half. He made six of Nevada’s nine goals from three-point range. Richard Daugherty had 16 Greene County points and was the lone Ram to score in double figures. Daugherty made three three-point shots. Leading Greene County scorer Bryce Stalder had nine points and was held nearly seven points below his game average. The Rams turned the ball over 20 times to 16 for the Cubs.

Greene County’s last girl/boy doubleheader at home is Monday vs. Southeast Valley (Cowrie) in non-conference play on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The girls’ game is set for 6:30 p.m. with the boys to follow.
