Since the coronavirus pandemic began, Iowa public school districts have had to navigate the challenges of keeping safety at the forefront while continuing to deliver the same education to students.

State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says there has been plenty of discussion about getting kids back to school full time in-person. Chapman says the pandemic has had a negative impact on students. 

“It’s had a huge impact on our students. We are seeing reports where some schools, they’re failing on tests, are up 80-percent. Parents wanting to go back to work but aren’t able to because their school district isn’t giving them the opportunity to have their child go back to school. This is a huge issue.”

Chapman says he feels parents should have the option for their child to be in the classroom or learn remotely.   The bill was signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds on Friday.
