The Paton-Churdan School District Speech Team recently held its district large group contest.
Three of the four entries have qualified for the state contest. Group improvisation, radio broadcast and short film each received a Division I-rating from the judge and will move onto the state contest. Due to the pandemic, Speech Coach Kellie Henderson says they hired a judge to critique and give ratings, whereas normally they would’ve competed with several other school districts against a rating system.
Greene County School District is doing the same type of competition, but has yet to formally compete to see which of their three entries will move onto state.
The Iowa High School Speech Association will conduct the state contest from February 1-10. As a reminder, due to the pandemic there will not be an all-state festival this year.
