
Greene County couldn’t stay with Class 1A number nine Grandview Christian of Des Moines on Saturday at the Gilbert boys’ basketball shootout and the result was a 43-point loss, 83-40. The Rams fell to 4-9 and had their three game winning streak snapped while the Thunder improved to 12-1, with their only loss to Class 4A Ottumwa.
No Greene County player reached double figures in scoring. Bryce Stalder had nine points with eight from Caden Telleen, seven by Braeden Roberts, and six for Max Riley. The Rams rely heavily on the three-point shot and they weren’t falling, especially in the first eight minutes when GVC built a 20-5 lead. For the game, the Thunder made 11-3’s to four made by the Rams. The score was 41-15 at halftime and the 35-point margin continuos clock rule went into effect late in the third quarter.
Josh Baucum, a GVC junior, led all players in scoring with 27 points, 21 of those in the first half. Manny Hammonds had 16 for the Thumder with 10 by Jonny Gatto, and nine from Alandis Arrasmith. Daniel Tobiloba, the 6′ 11″ sophomore, scored just six points, but was a defensive force with five blocked shots and the Rams could do little offensively from the inside when he was on the floor.
