The Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center speech teams had 9 out of their 12 performances advance to state from Saturday’s District Contest.
Head Speech and Drama Director Kelsey Moran says she’s proud of the growth from her seniors, who were freshmen when she took over the program.
“Watching just their transformation from these scared little ‘do everything not to be on the stage. I’m never doing speech. I don’t want to solo. I don’t want to talk in front of people.’ and all of a sudden, they turn into your All-State Speech kids. That transformation of putting them in a situation where they feel vulnerable, but comfortable enough to do it with the people around is really a magical experience.”
In the library group, the Reader’s Theatre, Choral Reading, Radio Broadcast Teams and Improvisation Team Mahaffey earned a 1. Improvisation Teams Carlson and McClain each earned a 2.
In the auditorium group, One Act, Mime and Musical Theatre Group “Merrily We Roll Along” earned ones. The second Musical Theatre Group “Four Sisters” earned a two. The state contest will be in two weeks under a similar format, with judges coming to AC/GC High School to judge the performances
