Two extremely entertaining basketball games were played Friday night in Adel, but unfortunately Adel-Desoto-Minburn fell just short in both games against Bondurant-Farrar with the boys losing 78-75 in double overtime, and the girls losing 58-57. ADM boys fall to 4-8 while the girls fall to 4-11.
In the boys game, it was a wild back and forth affair with both teams staying within six points of each other the entire game. After a first half where both teams were struggling to knock down shots and a Blue Jays 25-23 lead, the second half delivered great entertainment as both sides executed great offensively. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers trailed by six with three minutes to go before sophomore Vince Benetti made a huge drive for the bucket and foul to cut the lead. After another Benetti bucket, senior Ethan Juergens hit a huge three to cut the lead to 1 and then a Benetti layup under a minute to go sent it to overtime. In OT, the teams went back and forth before as junior Sam Hlas got back-to-back threes to help the Tigers, and senior Tate Stine-Smith had a great look for the win but couldn’t get the layup to go down. In double overtime, Bondurant was able to get to the free throw line enough to ice the game down the stretch, as the two teams split the season series. Four Tigers were in double figures in Juergens, Stine-Smith, Hlas, and Benetti.
One the girls side, the upset bid against number eight in 4A Bondurant-Farrar fell just short. The Tigers stayed in the game all night, trailing only 25-24 at halftime. ADM has a great offensive third quarter hitting the 20 point mark in the frame keyed by excellent three point shooting from Claire Greenslade and Grace Hardcastle. In the fourth quarter, ADM tried to slow down the post play of Katie Fogarty and Kaitlyn Lappe, but they were able to get just enough big buckets to starve the Tigers upset attempt. ADM had four players in double figure scoring with Greenslade, sophmore Nicole Storek, senior A.J. Smith, and senior Grace Hardcastle.
Tiger hoops returns Monday at home against Boone.
