Paton-Churdan and Coon Rapids-Bayard split a Rolling Valley Activities Conference girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Coon Rapids on Friday night. The P-C girls won 49-34 and the CR-B boys were 67-42 winners.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rockets improved to 11-3 with the victory. A balanced scoring attack was used by the Rockets with 12 points from Danielle Hoyle, 11 by Chloe Berns, nine for Tessa Steimel, seven from Karissa Stevenson, and five for Carmyn Paup. Hannah Behrens added three points and Emma Stream scored two. Breann Bass had 11 points for CR-B. The Rockets built their lead to as many as 22 points late in the third quarter.

The boys’ game saw Coach Bud Fagen’s team fall to 3-11. It was close early with CR-B up 11-19 after one quarter, then the home team put up 19 second quarter points and led 30-18 at the half. A 23-point third period put the Crusaders ahead to stay at 53-30. Eight P-C players scored at least two points, led by Forest Thompson with nine. Connor Brus scored eight points with seven by Joe Carey and six from Shaydon Thurman. Thompson and Bradyn Smith each had five rebounds and Thursday dished out three assists.
