Education will continue to be a major topic of discussion at the Iowa Legislature.

One item Governor Kim Reynolds brought up in her Condition of the State Address was asking Congress to provide legislation to give parents the option to have their child be in the classroom 100-percent. District 24 Senator Jesse Green agrees with the governor’s request and shares his opinion about having kids in the classroom.

“I believe that parents and children have a better grasp of what their needs are than the government. So we need to provide them the resources to make sure that they can have the best education possible. One thing that’s proven is that students seem to be learning more, and better and faster in front of a teacher, and the COVID situation has proven that. So we need to get kids back in school, we need to protect the most vulnerable of our society, and children are not at-risk (for COVID exposure). The most important thing for those children is to learn. We need to get them back in (the classroom).”

Senator Green says there is about a 6,000 student drop in enrollment across the state and he feels the best way to get students back to the best possible learning environment is to have them in the classroom.
