COVID-19 has impacted how Elderserve and Congregate Meals functioned this year in Greene County.

The organization that provides meals for the elderly reported the average monthly number of meals went down from 96 to the 60s during the middle of the pandemic, but now has increased to the 80s. Another impact of the pandemic was the temporary closure of the county’s only on-site meal location at the Greenewood Center in Jefferson. They only offer curbside service until mid-March, when that will be reassessed.

Due to not having to serve meals in-person, employee expenses have been reduced. However, they still continue to deliver meals in Scranton, Churdan and Grand Junction. The delivery drivers are reimbursed for mileage, but they donate that money back to the program.
