Bethel Joyce Carpenter, age 82, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2020 at Journey Senior Services.

     A private funeral service will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.  Casket bearers will be George Johnston, Jake Johnston, Jim Schwaller, Richard Corson, Jared Corson, and Tommy Lucas.  Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.

     Bethel was born on January 28, 1938 on her family’s farm near Coon Rapids.  The daughter of Joseph and Viva (Goodwin) Johnston.  She grew up on the farm and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1956.  Following high school, she worked for Garst and Thomas Seed Company as a bookkeeper for over 35 years.  She then worked at the St. Anthony Clinic in Coon Rapids for 13 years retiring in her mid-70s.  She was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church and the Coon Rapids American Legion Auxiliary.  Bethel enjoyed going for long car rides, playing Bingo, quilting, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She loved to cook for her family and she was famous for her angel food cakes.  Her favorite time of year was the Christmas season.

       Bethel is survived by her son Richard Corson (Ann) of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren: Mandi Lucas (Tommy) of Ankeny and Jared Corson of Carroll; two great-grandchildren: Tanner and Olivia; and other extended family members.

       Bethel was preceded in death by his her husband Duane in 2019; her parents Joe and Viva Johnston; her father and mother-in-law Russell and Jessie Carpenter; two sisters: Etta Emery and Arlene George (Wade).
