The Panora City Council approved the acquisition of land for a Clay Street widening project scheduled for 2024 at their regular Monday meeting.
Panorama School Superintendent Shawn Holloway recorded a statement supporting the measure and a statement was read by Mayor Pat Parker from Paige Arganbright, the director of Little Panther Daycare. Police Chief Matt Reising also supported the measure, saying it would be beneficial to have at least two ways to access Panther Drive, especially during school times and sports events. The owner of the property, Judy Kobeissi, voiced her displeasure with the measure, as the land has been in her family for three generations.
The Council also approved a change of ownership for Jensen Sanitation. The business is being acquired by RNS Waste out of Defiance, Iowa. The changeover date is scheduled for January 1, but no changes will be made in personnel, equipment or pickup dates.
The Council then approved a Subaward agreement between the City and the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the Siren Replacement Program.
Region XII Council of Governments requested a $1,000 grant from the Council for low-to-medium income housing renovations. The Council approved this request.
Finally, the Council approved monthly financials and discussed the 2021 budget and committee members, making no changes to the latter. Mayor Parker addressed the Council on the benefits of the Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency and the importance of making all city employees compliant with the National Emergency Management System.
There is no second council meeting for the month of December. The next Panora City Council meeting will be held January 11.
