The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The Board approved the initial applications for voluntary early retirement, which includes six staff with a total of 175 years of experience, with a total cost of $241,488. They also approved to continue board meetings on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:15pm, with a new location at the middle school boardroom at 101 Ram Drive. The Board then agreed with the Greene County FFA Chapter to pursue purchasing a new greenhouse, following a presentation by some of the students.
Under new business, the Board approved a $93,200 bid from Environmental Property Solution for asbestos removal of the former middle school building and gymnasium, along with a change order for the middle school conversion project of over $110,000. Additionally, the Board approved certificates of completion for the new high school and middle school projects, with exception of the new administrative office, which is anticipated to be substantially completed by December 23rd.
Next, the Board approved the first reading of a new board policy of Discrimination and Harassment based on sex prohibited, due to federal changes in sex discrimination. They also approved for the Perry School District to join the Heart of Iowa Conference, with the final vote to take place next month. The Board then approved to remove the remaining $27,000 in the agency fund to purchase clevertouch boards for the middle school, and they approved the 2021-2022 School Board Review Committee request for additional spending authority for at-risk and drop-out prevention programs as presented.
