A Jefferson man was recently sentenced for an April incident.
According to court documents, 32-year-old Steve Dzuris pled guilty to serious misdemeanors for assault and eluding. He was sentenced to 40 days in the Greene County Jail, which will also run consecutively with a 20-day jail sentence for a probation violation from a previous conviction of a third OWI charge. Following the jail sentence, Dzuris will serve three years of probation.
The misdemeanor charges stem from an incident on April 30th. The Jefferson Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office tried to pull over Dzuris’ vehicle for a driving complaint, but he wouldn’t fully comply with commands to stop and get out of the vehicle. After a taser was used to subdue Dzuris, he continued to be non-compliant with law enforcement as he was transported to jail.
Dzuris was also ordered to pay more than $1,000 in fines, surcharges, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. All other charges were dismissed.
