As we get closer to Christmas, some of us maybe and already have used online methods for purchasing gifts.
For those who have yet to do their holiday shopping and are considering purchasing items online, there are a few security measures that should be considered. TechZone Technology Consultant in Jefferson Tim Buenz talks about some of the ways to better protect yourself while shopping online.
Buenz suggests to shop with reputable retailers and those you know and trust. Other security reminders include vetting new businesses, be aware of deals – especially those that appear on social media – because some of them can lead to scams. You should not browse for items on a public WiFi because someone could hack your account, but if you use a public WiFi then use a virtual private network so there are additional firewalls to what you are searching for.
Buenz notes to not fall for email scams and delete suspicious looking emails, always pay with credit instead of debit, which keeps the purchaser from having direct access to your bank account and credit card companies charge no money for fraud liability. Track your purchases so they don’t get delivered to a wrong address and always report scams to law enforcement.
