The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office will purchase two dual-purpose dogs before the end of 2020.

Sheriff Marty Arganbright says having multiple dogs will be a benefit to the community.

“When we had our single dog, we would have to go to Cass County and train with other canine handlers and their dogs. If we have two dogs and two handlers here, they can do it right here in Guthrie County, even while they’re on duty, they can train, so that’ll help us keep the deputies in the county, on call and have them available when needed. Having two dogs will help because in the past, you could call a canine handler and he may or may not be available, so this will help that out also.”

The Malinois dogs will be in the county before the end of the month. Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Bennett mentioned at the Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday that these two dogs were 20-months and 14-months old respectively and most police dogs work until the age of seven or eight years.
